Using twitter via cell phone safe?

It seems that a lot of people are now using Twitter via mobile phones. 



There many mobile applications that allow sending and receiving tweets.  But are they really safe.
Twitter also has an option to tweet using SMS. But are these services safe?



Couple of things come to mind about security in Twitter.

Twitter gets hacked easily, so your mobile/cell phone numbers can end up in wrong hands. If you don't know about it, check this Mahable article.

Once a hacker gets access to your twitter account, it can be very unhealthy for you.

I guess Twitter is not taking adequate precautions. Facebook is very careful, that is why I like it. Don't use any mobile application. Do some research. Check the background of the developer or the company before you even install it on your phone.

I know it takes effort. But its better than losing your reputation.
